ISLAMABAD: The entire nation is marking Pakistan Day today (Sunday) with true patriotic passion. The day is being celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country. A special military parade is being held at Aiwan-e-Sadr to honor the historic Lahore Resolution passed in 1940. That resolution laid the foundation for the creation of a separate homeland for the Muslims of South Asia.
This year, President Asif Ali Zardari is the chief guest of the Pakistan Day parade. The ceremony is also attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, top military officials, and other dignitaries. Unlike tradition, the parade is being held at Aiwan-e-Sadr instead of the Shakarparian Parade Ground.
The day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad. Provinces marked the occasion with a 21-gun salute. In Lahore, a change of guard ceremony was held at Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum. A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) contingent took over duties from the Rangers.
During his address at the parade, President Zardari paid glowing tribute to the sacrifices of Muslims who fought for Pakistan’s creation. “We earned freedom after many sacrifices,” he said while highlighting the importance of Pakistan Day.
The president praised the unity between the armed forces and the people. He honored the martyrs and stressed that the nation has the strength to overcome any challenge. “We are not afraid of hardships,” he added.
President Zardari said the journey ahead is tough but not impossible. He urged citizens to work with full energy for the progress of the country. “We must rise above all differences and build a peaceful and prosperous Pakistan,” he said.
He also mentioned the current geopolitical challenges. He called the youth the greatest strength of the nation. Talking about foreign policy, he said it is rooted in peace and regional stability.
On this Pakistan Day, the president also expressed solidarity with the people of Kashmir. He said Pakistan will keep raising its voice for Kashmiris on international platforms.
“Our goal is to build a modern Islamic welfare state,” he said. He emphasized the need to protect the hard-earned independence of the country. “We will make every sacrifice to defend our motherland,” President Zardari declared.
He also praised the successful organization of the grand military parade. President Zardari strongly condemned terrorism and vowed to defeat extremist elements. He referred to these groups as “Fitna al-Khawarij.” He said the whole nation stands firm with the army in the fight against terrorism.
“Terrorism must be wiped out completely,” he stressed. He also spoke about modern threats like fifth-generation warfare. “We are a brave nation that can face any challenge,” he asserted. He assured the nation that Pakistan will continue to defend its sovereignty at all costs.
The president criticized India’s hostile behavior toward Pakistan. He said India has always looked at Pakistan with animosity.
In his Pakistan Day message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of unity and strong policies. He said that national development depends on collective effort. “With unity and dedication, we can achieve economic growth and social justice,” the premier said.
He stated that Pakistan Day reminds us of the values of sacrifice and determination. “From a new nation to a nuclear state, our journey has been one of resolve and struggle,” PM Shehbaz added. He called for unwavering commitment to build a prosperous Pakistan as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Meanwhile, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and service chiefs congratulated the nation on the 85th anniversary of Pakistan Day.
A statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that March 23, 1940, was a turning point in Pakistan’s history. “That day gave us a vision for an independent homeland,” the statement said.
It added that Pakistan Day reflects the nation’s strength, resilience, and hope. Pakistan today stands as a responsible member of the global community, promoting peace and cooperation.
The military’s statement further said, “As one united nation, we move forward with renewed spirit and a firm commitment to national progress.” It concluded by affirming the nation’s dedication to peace and harmony.
