A crucial session of the National Assembly was convened on Monday, where the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill is expected to be formally introduced following its approval in the Senate earlier in the day. According to parliamentary sources, the National Assembly session was called shortly after a meeting between Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The two reportedly discussed the timing of the vote on the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill and coordinated legislative procedures to ensure a swift transition from the Senate to the Lower House.
Earlier, the ruling coalition successfully passed the amendment in the Senate with 64 votes in favour, despite strong opposition protests and a walkout by opposition parties, who also tore copies of the Bill in protest.
The 27th Constitutional Amendment proposes a significant overhaul of Pakistan’s military and judicial structures, including changes that would reduce certain powers of the Supreme Court and establish new mechanisms for federal oversight.
