Nawabs, Sardars and Impunity: Balochistan Lawmaker Pulls No Punches

QUETTA: Ali Madad Jatak, a lawmaker in Balochistan Assembly, delivered a forceful Balochistan Assembly speech on the floor of the provincial house, criticising what was described as systemic injustice and tribal high-handedness. The legislator spoke about violence against women and ordinary citizens in several districts, including Khuzdar, Qalat and Wad.

Cases Raised in the Balochistan Assembly Speech

During an exchange with the Speaker, the legislator brought up sensitive cases, among them the victimisation of Asma Jatak and the daughter of Abdul Sattar Nichari.

The lawmaker also criticised the long history of abuse of power by tribal elites, nawabs and sardars, naming Akhtar Mangle as an example.

Forced Displacement and Criminal Impunity

The speaker condemned forced displacement, the destruction of property and the impunity enjoyed by criminals. Years of oppression by feudal elements, the lawmaker argued, push frustrated young people toward extremist paths.

A Call for Accountability

The debate centred on the need for strict accountability and thorough police investigations. The lawmaker called for the dismantling of criminal networks that shelter behind armed bodyguards under the cover of tribal authority.

The speaker urged the government and the IG Police to take decisive legal action against such elements. Good governance, the lawmaker said, must protect the vulnerable regardless of tribal affiliation.
