Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif emphasized the importance of fostering better relations with India, noting that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit offers a valuable opportunity to restore ties between the two countries.
In a recent interview with Indian journalist Barkha Dutt, Nawaz expressed his hope for an eventual meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which he believes could help bridge the gap between the nations.
During her visit to Lahore, Dutt shared on social media platform “X” that she had met Nawaz Sharif and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, in the office of the Punjab Chief Minister.
She noted that, while Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar’s participation in the summit isn’t aimed at bilateral discussions, his anticipated remarks on terrorism will be closely watched by both sides.
The prospect of Jaishankar’s address has drawn significant attention, as Nawaz Sharif conveyed optimism that such engagements could contribute to easing tensions and opening channels for dialogue between Pakistan and India.
