LAHORE: The election triumph of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in NA-130 faces a challenge as it’s been brought before the Election Tribunal within the Lahore High Court (LHC).
Dr. Yasmin Rashid, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has lodged an election petition against Nawaz Sharif’s victory, represented by her legal team comprising Ahmed Awais and Rana Mudassar Advocate.
The petition contends that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) unlawfully issued the notification endorsing Nawaz Sharif’s win.
It’s noteworthy that on February 10, Nawaz Sharif’s success in the Lahore constituency NA-130 was contested in the Lahore High Court.
Subsequently, on February 13, the LHC dismissed Yasmin Rashid’s petition challenging Nawaz Sharif’s victory from NA-130.
During the hearing, Justice Ali Baqir Najafi directed Dr. Yasmin to address her concerns with the Election Commission.
Following this, on February 14, the ECP issued the notification affirming Nawaz Sharif’s win in NA-130.
In the elections conducted on February 8, Nawaz Sharif secured victory in NA-130 Lahore with 179,310 votes, while the PTI-supported candidate Yasmin Rashid trailed behind with 104,485 votes.
