ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flash flood alert for local nullahs and streams in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), areas including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Murree, Galliyat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Dir, Swat, Kashmir, and the hill torrents of D.G. Khan and Rajanpur may experience flooding due to the ongoing monsoon spell, which is expected to last until July 7th.
The NEOC also warned of potential urban flooding in Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar.
Data from the Federal Flood Division and other relevant departments indicate a medium-level flood is expected in River Kabul, with a net water flow of 93.5 thousand cusecs, while other major rivers will continue to have normal water flows.
The NDMA has advised Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) and local administrations to closely monitor the situation and take appropriate measures to protect at-risk populations.

In related news, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has instructed pharmaceutical companies, including the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) and Pharma Bureau, to ensure adequate stockpiles of medicines and raw materials for the upcoming monsoon season.
Sources indicate that DRAP has requested details from companies regarding their stock levels of medicines and raw materials for diseases common during the monsoon season, such as malaria, typhoid, and diarrhea.
