ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a warning on Saturday for severe weather conditions, including heavy rains and potential flash flooding, which are expected to continue until August 19.
The advisory highlights that widespread thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rainfall are forecasted for Sindh, South Punjab, and Balochistan, with isolated areas experiencing very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. Specific regions at risk include Sindh, DG Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Zhob, Loralai, Nasirabad, Sibbi, Kalat, and Makran Divisions.
The NDMA also warned of medium to high levels of flash flooding in hill torrents of the DG Khan division and in the Nullahs of Sibbi, Nasirabad, Zhob, Kalat, Larkana, and Hyderabad (Dadu and Naushahro Feroze Districts) from August 17 to August 19.
In response, the NDMA has directed all relevant departments to take precautionary measures to manage the impact of the severe weather. This includes enhancing monitoring to shorten response times and ensuring that civic agencies and rescue services remain on high alert with adequate personnel and equipment.
The authority advised evacuating residents from flood-prone areas and setting up shelters with food and medical supplies. Farmers and locals were also cautioned to move livestock away from low-lying areas near rivers and tributaries to avoid risks.
Power distribution companies (Discos) and local departments have been instructed to implement safety measures to prevent electrocution, ensure prompt power restoration, and coordinate road clearance in the event of blockages or waterlogging.
