Rain and snowfall expected in Pakistan from Jan 31 to Feb 3: PMD

NDMA issues alert for Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK and Balochistan; temperature likely to drop sharply

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a new spell of rain and snowfall in different parts of the country from January 31 to February 3, issuing warnings for northern and upper regions.

According to the PMD, rain and snowfall are expected in northern Balochistan and northern areas during the period. Other parts of the country may also receive rain.

The Met Office said that from January 31 to February 3, several areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to experience rain and snowfall. From February 1 to February 3, rain and snowfall are also expected at different places in Islamabad, the Potohar region, Murree and Galiyat.

The weather system may cause a significant drop in temperatures, while landslides could occur in the mountainous regions of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

In view of the situation, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for possible rain and snowfall in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Balochistan.

The NDMA warned that snowfall may make roads slippery and disrupt traffic flow. Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures, avoid unnecessary travel in hilly areas, and remain cautious during journeys.
