New Weather System Hits Punjab, Snowfall and Heavy Rain Forecast

Lahore: A new weather system has entered Punjab, triggering forecasts of severe cold, rain, and snowfall in various parts of the province over the coming days.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a western weather system began affecting Punjab from Friday. As a result, cold temperatures and foggy conditions are expected to persist across the province, including Lahore.

The PDMA said that from January 20 to 23, heavy snowfall and rain are likely in Murree, Galiyat, and other mountainous areas, while rain is also expected in most districts of Punjab during this period.

Authorities Put on High Alert

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said that all relevant departments have been placed on high alert in view of the expected harsh weather. These include local government bodies, the health department, Rescue 1122, police, forest department, C&W, tourism, and transport authorities.

He directed that emergency control rooms remain operational round-the-clock to ensure a swift response to any emergency situation.

Temperature Forecast and Public Advisory

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that Lahore’s temperature may drop to a minimum of 4°C, while the maximum is expected to reach 14°C.

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather. Tourists planning to visit Murree have been urged to take precautionary measures and strictly follow official guidelines.

Helpline and Tourist Facilitation

DG PDMA said that facilitation centres have been established at various locations in Murree to assist tourists. The authority has appealed to the public to follow issued safety instructions and contact PDMA helpline 1129 in case of any emergency.
