ISLAMABAD: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has reported a remarkable 100 percent increase in its annual income for the year 2024, reaching Rs 110 billion. Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan announced this significant achievement, highlighting that the NHA’s income has nearly doubled from Rs 64 billion last year, marking it as a “historic and unique example” among government agencies in the country.
In his address, Minister Khan emphasized that the revenue collection at toll plazas has also seen impressive growth, rising from Rs 32 billion to Rs 64 billion. This surge is a milestone in the NHA’s financial stability and operational success.
During a recent visit to the NHA headquarters, the minister inspected the National Traffic Operation Center and reviewed the traffic monitoring and control systems on motorways. He directed the NHA to prepare a daily report on revenue collection to maintain transparency and efficiency in operations.
A key highlight of the visit was the successful shift of 99 percent of vehicles on the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway to the M-tag facility. Minister Khan instructed that monitoring systems, including cameras for license plates and vehicle sides, must be fully operational, ensuring that data is readily available for the Secretary of Communications and the NHA Chairman.
To further enhance public awareness about the M-tag system, which streamlines travel, prevents vehicle theft, and alleviates traffic congestion, the minister called for an awareness campaign within the next two weeks. He believes that more vehicle owners should be encouraged to take advantage of this facility.
Khan expressed satisfaction with the NHA’s performance over the past six months in revenue collection, which he stated would significantly aid in achieving financial independence for the authority. He also suggested that NHA employees be rewarded with bonuses for their hard work, acknowledging their contribution to this record increase in income.
As the NHA continues to strengthen its revenue streams and enhance its operational capabilities, the focus remains on providing efficient services while ensuring the safety and convenience of travelers on Pakistan’s highways.
