Pakistani actress and morning show host Nida Yasir has responded to criticism after inviting senior actors Faryal Gohar and Jamal Shah to her show together despite their divorce decades ago.
The former couple, who parted ways in 1992 after 34 years of marriage, recently appeared on Nida’s morning programme. During the show, they spoke about their separation and shared memories from their time together. However, some moments appeared slightly uncomfortable as the two sat face-to-face.
Soon after the episode aired, social media users criticised Nida Yasir for inviting the ex-spouses together. Many questioned her choice of guests and accused her of creating awkward television for ratings.
“Divorce Does Not Mean Disrespect,” Says Nida
Addressing the backlash, Nida Yasir clarified her intention behind the invitation. She said she wanted to send a positive message to viewers. According to her, relationships may end, but people can still maintain respect and dignity.
She explained that both Faryal Gohar and Jamal Shah avoided blame or negativity during the conversation. Instead, they spoke calmly and respectfully about their past. Nida said this was the example she wanted to highlight.
“I wanted to show that even after divorce, people can behave gracefully and maintain mutual respect,” she said, adding that her intention was misunderstood by some viewers.
While some viewers appreciated the mature discussion, others felt that bringing former spouses together on television was unnecessary. The debate continues online, with mixed reactions from fans and critics.
Nida Yasir, who has been hosting her morning show for over a decade, has faced controversies before. However, she remains one of Pakistan’s most recognized morning show hosts.
The recent episode has once again sparked discussion about celebrity interviews, personal boundaries, and the role of television in sensitive conversations.
