MULTAN: At least nine people were killed as a three-storey building collapse A tragic incident unfolded in Mohalla Jawadian near Haram Gate on Tuesday as a dilapidated three-storey building collapsed, claiming the lives of nine individuals, including three women, while injuring two others.
According to Dr. Kaleem Ullah, the District Emergency Officer of Rescue 1122, the distress call reporting the collapse was received around 3:30 am, prompting immediate response from rescue teams.
Dr. Kaleem stated that among the 11 individuals trapped under the debris, nine lost their lives, with two survivors currently receiving critical treatment at Nishtar Hospital.
The district administration revealed that seven of the deceased belonged to a single family, including children aged between 12 to 15 years.
The victims were identified as Danish (15), Faheem Abbas (40), Ameer Ali (12), Waseem (14), Sanoobar (40), Bukhtawar Ameen (18), and Komal (13). Meanwhile, Waqar and Mussarat Bibi sustained severe injuries and were promptly transferred to the hospital.
“The rescue operation has been successfully concluded,” affirmed Dr. Kaleem.
This tragic incident echoes a similar catastrophe from December last year, where nine members of a family perished in a house fire caused by a short-circuit. Despite concerted efforts by Rescue 1122, aided by ambulances and locals, the rapid spread of flames hindered rescue attempts.
The victims of the earlier incident were identified as the wife of Zakir and their eight children, including Hashim, Qasim, Hasan, and Sufyan.
