QUETTA: Two consecutive tremors shook the Zhob region of Balochistan early Monday morning, causing alarm among residents.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad reported that the first earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale, struck at a depth of 35 kilometers. Its epicenter was located 106 kilometers south of Zhob.
According to the US Geological Survey, this earthquake struck 61 kilometers north of the Kohlu district at a depth of just 10 kilometers.
Less than an hour later, a second tremor, measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, hit the same area. This quake had a greater depth of 151 kilometers, with its epicenter 79 kilometers south of Zhob.
The back-to-back tremors have raised concerns among the local population, although no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising residents to stay alert for any aftershocks.
