The Awami National Party (ANP) announced its decision to abstain from participating in the parliamentary proceedings. Asfandyar Wali Khan, the ANP chief, emphasized that his party stands for the primacy of democracy and parliament. He clarified that the ANP would refrain from engaging in the electoral process for the Senate and assemblies.
Khan expressed concerns about the transparency of recent elections, highlighting uncertainties surrounding the utilization of funds. The ANP opted not to cast votes in provincial assemblies and the Senate as a means of protest.
“We believe in returning the mandate to authentic representatives,” Khan stated firmly.
Notably, the ANP had earlier declared its support for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Balochistan. This decision came to light subsequent to a meeting between ANP delegates and former President Asif Ali Zardari, who holds the position of co-chairman in the PPP.
The ANP delegation, consisting of Zamurk Khan, Senator Daud Khan, and Senator Umar Farooq, convened to discuss strategic alliances and future collaborations in the political arena. During the deliberations, the ANP representatives reiterated their commitment to backing the PPP in both Senate and presidential elections.
