KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorology Department (PMD) warned Karachi residents on Thursday to get ready for hotter weather in the coming days. They have forecast a period of dry weather with no rain expected, which means temperatures are likely to rise
PMD Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz said there won’t be any rain in Karachi until at least mid-September. He also mentioned that even after that, it’s still uncertain when or if rain will come. The Met Office says Karachi will have partly cloudy and humid weather over the next 24 hours. The minimum temperature recorded in the city was 27.5°C, and the maximum is expected to be between 32°C and 34°C.
Winds from the southwest are blowing at 19 kilometers per hour, with humidity at 85%. There’s a chance of light rain or drizzle in Tharparkar, Umarkot, and nearby areas today and tomorrow (Friday). Chief Meteorologist Sarfaraz added that warmer days may return to Karachi in the coming weeks as the monsoon winds leave Sindh by mid september, and there could even be heatwaves in October.
In August, Karachi experienced heavy rains and strong winds for several days due to the impact of Cyclone Asna, which eventually weakened in the Arabian Sea while heading toward Oman’s coast. The heavy rain also affected other parts of Sindh, including Tharparkar, Mitsi, and Islamkot
The downpours damaged roads, creating problems for commuters. The Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported five deaths and two injuries in the province within 24 hours earlier this week. The casualties included a woman who drowned in Umerkot, two deaths in Larkana—one from electrocution and another from a house collapse—along with two injuries. In Tando Allahyar, two more deaths were reported: one from an electrical shock and another from a wall collapse.
