A district and sessions court in Islamabad has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Ali Amin Gandapur in arms and liquor case, intensifying the legal troubles for the former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister. The warrant was issued after his repeated absence from court hearings, with Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan directing police to arrest Gandapur and present him before the court without delay.
The case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader was registered at the Bara Kahu Police Station in the federal capital. The next hearing has been scheduled for October 28. The court’s decision marks a significant escalation in the ongoing legal proceedings, as the same magistrate had issued a similar arrest warrant against Gandapur last month, which also remained unexecuted.
The non-bailable arrest warrant for Ali Amin Gandapur in arms and liquor case adds to the growing list of legal complications facing the PTI’s senior leadership. The party has been facing intense legal and political pressure since the May 9 riots of 2023, which led to the imprisonment of several key figures, including PTI founder Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Yasmin Rashid, and others.
Meanwhile, in another development, an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi has also directed the police to arrest Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, and produce her before the court on October 22 in connection with the PTI’s protest cases from November 26 last year. These back-to-back legal moves indicate that the party’s troubles are far from over, with several of its top leaders continuing to face serious charges in multiple cases across the country.
