The National Telecom Corporation (NTC) has unveiled a detailed plan to strengthen cybersecurity for federal and provincial governments. The initiative also covers vital state institutions facing rising online threats.
According to an official report, NTC is committed to providing secure, modern, and reliable IT services to all government departments. The strategy focuses on shielding critical communication systems from cyber risks and enhancing national digital safety.
Key measures include the installation of advanced border controllers and firewalls. These upgrades aim to reinforce network defenses across Pakistan. The NTC plan also highlights the creation of a strong framework for active threat management. Real-time monitoring and countering of cyberattacks will form the core of this security system.
Efforts to upgrade digital infrastructure will not only protect networks but also boost internet performance. NTC intends to introduce Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology. This high-speed solution will support 4G services in eight major locations: Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar, Attock, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
The strategy also prioritizes safe communication for senior government figures and sensitive agencies. A secure mobile service is being developed to prevent unauthorized access. The system is designed to block interception and surveillance by hostile actors. “This initiative will ensure that conversations of key decision-makers remain protected from cyber intrusions,” the document confirms.
Another component of the plan is a secure access setup for Islamabad’s data centers. Internal protocols will be tightened to increase protection and limit vulnerabilities.
Looking to the future, NTC also aims to expand its cloud services and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. These efforts align with global trends in cybersecurity and data protection, ensuring Pakistan’s communication networks remain resilient against evolving digital threats.
