A tragic Nushki blast claimed seven lives on Sunday in violence-hit Balochistan. Among the deceased were three Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers. The explosion struck near a passenger bus traveling on the Nushki-Dalbandin highway. Over 35 people were injured in the incident.
Authorities have yet to confirm the nature or cause of the Nushki blast. Police said the injured were taken to Nushki Hospital soon after the explosion. Many of them are in critical condition.
Following the attack, an emergency was declared at Mir Gul Khan Naseer Teaching Hospital. Security forces cordoned off the site immediately. Investigators are collecting evidence and trying to determine what triggered the Nushki blast. The critically wounded victims are being moved to Quetta via helicopter for better medical care.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the Nushki blast, calling it a brutal attack on innocent civilians. He expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and wished a swift recovery to those injured.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti also expressed deep grief. He condemned the terrorist act and called it an assault on peace. Bugti assured that all necessary steps would be taken to punish those behind the Nushki blast. He reaffirmed the government’s determination to restore law and order in the province.
The Nushki blast came just days after a massive terrorist attack in the Mushqaf area of Bolan district. Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continue to bear the brunt of terrorism in Pakistan. As per the Global Terrorism Index 2025, these two regions accounted for over 96% of terror attacks and fatalities in the country this year.
Earlier this week, militants linked to the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) targeted the Jaffar Express. They blew up a railway track and took over 440 passengers hostage. A complex rescue operation by security forces killed 33 terrorists and saved all hostages.
However, the tragedy claimed 26 lives. Among the dead were 18 personnel from the Pakistan Army and FC, three railway and government officials, and five civilians. Additionally, three more FC soldiers were martyred in a separate militant attack on a checkpoint before the train assault.
DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that the attack was followed by disinformation campaigns on social media. He said Indian media circulated fake videos to exaggerate the situation. He accused India of supporting such violent acts and funding terrorism in Pakistan.
Following the Mushqaf incident, the government announced a relief package. Each victim’s family will receive Rs5.2 million along with jobs in the Ministry of Railways.
The Nushki blast adds to the growing list of deadly attacks in Balochistan, highlighting the urgent need for stronger security and counterterrorism measures.
