Pakistan’s power generation increased by 7.2% in October 2024, reaching 10,262 GWh compared to 9,570 GWh in October 2023, according to NEPRA data. However, month-on-month, there was a 17.8% decline from September’s 12,486 GWh.
In the first four months of FY2024-25, total power generation was 50,808 GWh, down 5.4% compared to the same period last year. The average fuel cost per kWh dropped by 19% year-on-year to Rs9.26 but saw a slight 1.9% increase compared to September 2024.
Hydropower led the generation mix with a 31.1% share, followed by coal (23.6%), RLNG (19.5%), nuclear (14.1%), and gas (8.0%). Notably, coal and bagasse production surged by 45% and 73.8% YoY, while nuclear and wind power saw declines of 21% and 0.6%, respectively.
