JEDDAH: In a significant development, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has scheduled an emergency meeting of its Executive Committee at the level of foreign ministers on August 7 in Jeddah.
An official OIC statement announced that the request from Palestine and Iran for an urgent meeting was accepted. The meeting will address the recent situation in the Gaza Strip and the broader Middle East peace process following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
The agenda for the meeting, exclusively obtained by The Wenews, includes discussions on “the ongoing crimes by Israeli occupation forces against Palestinians and Israel’s aggression against the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The Executive Committee meeting will commence with remarks from the OIC Chair and Secretary General. Subsequent sessions will be held behind closed doors, involving members including Palestine, Iran, and other nations such as Pakistan.
At the end of the meeting, a joint communiqué is expected to be adopted.

Acting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani recently spoke by phone with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar. Kani conveyed the deep distress of the Iranian nation and its leadership over the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran during the Iranian President’s inauguration.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed that Pakistan shares these sentiments, and informed that the Prime Minister of Pakistan had strongly condemned both the events in Gaza and the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, as stated in a press release from the Foreign Office spokesperson.
