OpenAI Breaks Revenue Records as Annual Income Triples

OpenAI Revenue Triples, Crosses $20 Billion in 2025

SAN FRANCISCO: Artificial intelligence company OpenAI has reported a sharp surge in its financial performance, claiming its annual revenue crossed $20 billion in 2025, nearly three times higher than the $6 billion recorded last year.

In a blog post, OpenAI’s Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar said the company’s annual revenue run rate exceeded $20 billion in 2025, reflecting rapid growth alongside a major expansion in computing capacity.

She noted that OpenAI’s computing power increased from 0.6 gigawatts (GW) in 2024 to 1.9 GW in 2025, while the Microsoft-backed company also reached record levels of daily and weekly active users.

To help cover rising costs linked to AI development, OpenAI confirmed it will begin showing advertisements to some users in the United States on ChatGPT, marking a shift in its monetization strategy.

Meanwhile, OpenAI’s Policy Chief Chris Lehane said plans to launch the company’s first device in the second half of 2026 remain on schedule.

Friar added that OpenAI’s platform integrates text, images, voice, code and APIs, and the company’s future focus will be on AI agents and workflow automation.

Looking ahead, she said OpenAI will priorities practical AI applications in healthcare, science and business in 2026, while keeping its balance sheet light by relying on partnerships and flexible agreements rather than heavy capital investments.
