Islamabad: Opposition leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, emphasized the patriotism of the people of Balochistan during his speech on the Assembly floor on Wednesday. The PTI leader called for immediate action to address the grievances of Balochistan’s stakeholders, particularly following the resignation of Balochistan National Party (BNP-M) chief Akhtar Mengal.
Omar Ayub stressed the importance of taking Mengal’s resignation seriously, urging the government to form a fact-finding mission to assess the situation in Balochistan and establish a committee to engage with the people of the province.
A day earlier, Akhtar Mengal resigned from the National Assembly, expressing his disillusionment with the state’s handling of Balochistan’s issues. He declared his lack of confidence in the government and cited the worsening conditions in Balochistan as his reason for stepping down. “I announce my resignation from the Assembly today. I made this decision after witnessing the situation of Balochistan,” Mengal stated, lamenting the lack of progress and support for his province.
Omar Ayub highlighted the ongoing neglect of Balochistan, criticizing the federal government’s reluctance to engage in dialogue. He pointed out that Balochistan’s youth are disillusioned with their leaders, and the people are not given their due share of resources. “They have a right to their resources. Talk to them,” Ayub insisted, emphasizing the need for open communication with the province.
Ayub further criticized the government’s disinterest in resolving the crisis, hinting at external influences affecting decision-making. He also voiced concerns over the alleged persecution of PTI members, including the imprisonment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and other party leaders on what he described as baseless charges.
The situation in Balochistan remains tense, and Ayub’s remarks reflect growing frustration among political leaders about the government’s approach to the province’s longstanding issues.
