In a significant political move, key opposition parties, including PTI, JUI, Awaam Pakistan, and PkMAP, are considering the formation of a grand opposition alliance. Leaders such as Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, and Mahmood Khan Achakzai met at PTI leader Asad Qaiser’s residence in Bani Gala to deliberate on this strategy. The meeting was followed by a dinner hosted by Qaiser in honor of the opposition leaders.
PTI’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar addressed a gathering in Mardan on Wednesday to prepare for the party’s upcoming protest on February 8 at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore. During his speech, Akbar emphasized internal issues within PTI, admitting the presence of factions.
He stated that opportunists would not be allowed to hijack the party and reaffirmed that PTI’s mandate was stolen in the general elections.
Akbar also highlighted the need for dialogue with institutions, expressing willingness to negotiate but warning of aggressive measures if necessary. He criticized the current government, claiming it was forcibly installed in power, and urged party supporters to rally behind PTI’s demands.
The federal government has warned PTI against holding its protest rally on February 8. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stressed that while the government is open to dialogue, it will take necessary measures to maintain order if PTI proceeds without permission. The district administration has yet to grant official approval for the Lahore rally.
