The recent Pahalgam attack has sparked a storm of criticism across India. The deadly assault, which left 26 tourists dead, has triggered serious questions about the government’s response and credibility. Critics are raising concerns about how authorities identified the alleged attackers within just a few hours of the incident.
Among the victims was Shailesh Bhai Kalathiya from Gujarat. His widow expressed her anger towards BJP leader CR Patil. “You have a fleet of VIP vehicles,” she said, “but there were no soldiers or even a medical team present at the spot.” Her words reflect the growing public frustration.
Anuradha Bhasin, a senior journalist and Kashmir analyst, questioned the official narrative. “This happened in one of the most heavily militarised areas in the world. How is it possible?” she asked. Bhasin pointed out that the delay in the security response contrasts sharply with how quickly the names and photos of suspects were released. She said this raised serious doubts about the transparency of the investigation.
Security expert Amitabh Mattoo also commented on the Pahalgam attack. He labelled it an “obvious intelligence failure.” In his words, “This was a major breach. No matter how you see it, the system failed.”
The handling of the attack and the information that followed has led to deep public and media scrutiny. Many are asking whether the rule of law and basic standards of accountability are being respected in such sensitive matters.
The Pahalgam attack, which took place in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), is being described as the deadliest assault on civilians in nearly 20 years. The attack shattered the relative peace that had returned to the region in recent months.
Following the tragedy, India responded sharply. New Delhi directly blamed Islamabad and promised to retaliate. However, Pakistan strongly rejected the accusations. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar called the claims “baseless.” Speaking beside DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Dar said India’s response was politically driven and risked destabilising the region.
Dar further warned India against any misadventure. He made it clear that while Pakistan will not take any escalatory step, it will give a firm and clear response to any provocation. He called on New Delhi to act responsibly.
The Pahalgam attack has not only exposed weaknesses in India’s intelligence network but also pushed both countries to the edge of fresh tensions. The growing pressure on Indian authorities is matched by Pakistan’s diplomatic push to counter the allegations.
