ISLAMABAD: As protests intensify in the capital, additional troops from the Pakistan Army have been deployed to key areas, including the Srinagar Highway, to ensure security.
The army has taken control of strategic locations to prevent any potential violence or unrest. Sources indicate that the military is fully prepared to respond firmly to any disruptions.
With coordination from local authorities, army personnel have assumed responsibilities at major points leading to D-Chowk, the focal point of ongoing demonstrations. This military presence is part of a broader government strategy to maintain law and order amid the volatile situation.
The decision to deploy the army follows a complete lockdown of the twin cities due to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest planned at D-Chowk, directly in front of parliament in the Red Zone. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has vowed to participate in the protest.
The Ministry of Interior issued orders for the army’s deployment under Article 245 of the Constitution, which has now been completed. A notification confirmed that the army would remain in Islamabad from October 5 to 17 to uphold law and order, particularly concerning the 23rd meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government and associated VVIP visits.
