Islamabad: The federal government has decided to launch the 100 MW solar energy project in Gilgit-Baltistan to expand clean and reliable electricity access in the region.
A review meeting was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, where officials were briefed on the progress of solar energy initiatives in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Officials told the prime minister that an 18-megawatt solar project for government buildings will be completed by December 2026. Work is also underway on an 82-megawatt solar scheme aimed at supplying electricity to homes in Gilgit, Skardu, Chilas, and Khaplu.
The prime minister directed authorities to speed up work on the projects and ensure timely completion. He also stressed full transparency in all phases of the project and ordered third-party validation to maintain accountability.
He said the federal government will bear the full cost of the 100-megawatt solar energy initiative for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
