The Pakistan Army foiled a terrorist attack on Thursday in the Jandola area of South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Ten militants, including a suicide bomber, were killed during the clash.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the terrorists tried to breach a checkpost. Troops responded quickly and stopped the attackers. As a result, the terrorists rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the checkpost wall.
ISPR said the troops fought bravely and engaged the assailants in intense gunfire. All ten attackers were eliminated outside the checkpost. One of them was a suicide bomber. The military referred to the militants as “Khawarij” and said they were sent to hell.
A sanitization operation is underway to clear the area. Security forces are searching for any remaining terrorists. The army remains firm in its commitment to wipe out every form of terrorism from the country.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the soldiers. He said the entire nation stands with the armed forces in the fight against terrorism. He lauded the quick and decisive response to the terrorist attack in South Waziristan.
This assault came just a day after another major terrorist attack. Militants hijacked the Jaffar Express in Balochistan’s Bolan area. Security forces killed all 33 hijackers in a successful operation.
The train was on its way from Quetta to Peshawar when terrorists targeted it. They destroyed rail tracks and opened fire on the train. Over 440 passengers were aboard. Several were taken hostage in the nearby hills.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack. Sadly, 21 hostages and four security personnel lost their lives during the crisis.
Meanwhile, the country is witnessing a sharp rise in terrorism. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), there was a 42% increase in militant activity in January 2025 compared to the previous month.
The data showed 74 militant attacks in January. These attacks caused 91 deaths, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Around 117 people were injured, among them 53 security officers, 54 civilians, and 10 terrorists.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained the worst-hit region. The province’s settled districts saw 27 attacks. Nineteen people lost their lives, including 11 security men, six civilians, and two militants.
The tribal areas of KP, formerly known as FATA, suffered 19 attacks. These incidents caused 46 deaths, including 13 security personnel, eight civilians, and 25 militants.
Balochistan also faced a rise in terrorist activity. The province recorded 24 attacks. These claimed 26 lives — 11 security personnel, six civilians, and nine terrorists.
Two suicide bombings also occurred in Balochistan in January. One was claimed by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. The other was claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army.
Pakistan continues to face serious security threats. But security forces are determined to counter every terrorist attack and eliminate extremism.
