Pakistan is celebrating Eid Milad un Nabi, the blessed birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), with deep devotion and love today, the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awal 1447 AH. Across the country, the faithful are marking this sacred day by renewing their allegiance to the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) and pledging to follow the Sunnah in their daily lives.
The day began with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad, while the provincial capitals observed a 21-gun salute. Special prayers were offered for peace, prosperity, and the progress of Pakistan. Eid Milad un Nabi is observed every year on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awal, the third month of the Islamic calendar, to honour the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) who was sent as a mercy for all mankind.
Nation-wide celebrations and events
Conferences, seminars, and Mahafil-e-Milad are being organised nationwide to pay tribute to the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Streets, mosques, and homes are decorated with colourful lights since the sighting of the moon, and they will continue to glow throughout the month. People distribute food, sweets, and gifts in markets, neighbourhoods, and orphanages as part of the rituals of this blessed festival.
Religious organisations, Milad committees, and community groups are also holding processions and gatherings to mark the occasion. These events highlight the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), whose character remains a beacon of light for the entire world.
Prime Minister’s message on Eid Milad un Nabi
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called upon the nation to rebuild Pakistan in line with the golden principles of the Prophet’s life. In his message on Eid Milad un Nabi, he reminded Muslims that nearly 1,500 years ago, the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Makkah transformed the world. His arrival turned darkness into light, laying down foundations of justice, mercy, and equality.
The Prime Minister noted that Muslims around the world are commemorating the 1500th birth anniversary as the Year of Rahmatul-lil-Alameen. Both the National Assembly and the Senate have passed resolutions to embed the Prophet’s (PBUH) teachings into the nation’s constitution, laws, and public life.
Quoting the Quranic verse, “Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example for anyone who has hope in Allah and the Last Day,” the Prime Minister stressed that the life of the Prophet (PBUH) is a complete model for governance, justice, economics, trade, and social values. He also urged the younger generation to study the Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH) in today’s fast-changing world.
Concluding his message, Shehbaz Sharif prayed: “May Allah keep Pakistan safe, grant us unity, and bless us with the ability to live in love and obedience to the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Pakistan Zindabad.”
President’s greetings to the nation
President Asif Ali Zardari also congratulated the people of Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah on Eid Milad un Nabi. He said that this historic anniversary is not only a source of joy but also a reminder to shape our lives according to the Prophet’s universal principles.
The President emphasised that the 1500th birth anniversary strengthens the collective resolve to implement justice, brotherhood, compassion, and peace. He added that the Prophet’s (PBUH) teachings provide guidance for solving today’s global issues such as extremism, injustice, and social unrest.
He urged the nation to pledge on this auspicious day to build a society based on equality, peace, and respect for humanity. In his prayer, he asked Allah to grant every believer the strength to follow the noble life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
