The electricity shortfall in Pakistan has reached 6,070 megawatts, causing extensive power outages nationwide. The current electricity demand is 26,000 megawatts, while production stands at 19,929 megawatts. The detailed breakdown of power generation is as follows:
- Hydroelectric power plants: 6,900 megawatts
- Public sector thermal power plants: 700 megawatts
- Private sector power plants: 7,988 megawatts
- Wind power plants: 1,000 megawatts
- Solar power plants: 199 megawatts
- Biomass (bagasse) power plants: 142 megawatts
- Nuclear power plants: 3,000 megawatts
Due to this significant shortfall, load shedding is occurring for up to 8 hours in various regions. In areas with higher line losses, the load shedding duration extends to 12 to 14 hours.
