ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, announced efforts to enhance the Ease of Doing Business to attract foreign investment, including the launch of the Pakistan Single Window initiative to streamline processes for investors.
Speaking at the 40th anniversary of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), he emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting businesses and highlighted policies that have reduced inflation and increased foreign reserves, resulting in lower interest rates and reduced power tariffs.
Khan noted that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is actively addressing the challenges faced by the business community and that a high-profile board has been established to tackle these issues. The government is also revising the transshipment policy to enhance cross-border trade and position Pakistan as a regional business hub.
ICCI President Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari reflected on the chamber’s milestones and the need for skill training and long-term economic policies. Former ICCI President Zafar Bakhtawari called for government recognition of business leaders, while Zubair Ahmad Malik urged the swift implementation of key projects like the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline.
Nasir Mansoor Qureshi, the ICCI President-elect, expressed optimism about Pakistan’s opportunities and the need to effectively showcase them. The event honored former chamber presidents for their contributions and was attended by business leaders, government officials, and media representatives.
