Pakistan has increased diplomatic efforts to ensure the safe return of detained sailors after two vessels carrying Pakistani and Iranian crew members were reportedly stopped near Singapore.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said ongoing contacts were underway with several countries and authorities to secure the return of detained sailors and guarantee their safety.

In a statement shared on X, Dar said he spoke with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and requested support for the welfare and repatriation of 11 Pakistani and 20 Iranian sailors.

According to Ishaq Dar, the vessels are currently near Singapore’s territorial waters after they were allegedly detained by US authorities over claims linked to a naval blockade involving Iran.

The foreign minister said Pakistan and Iran were closely coordinating on the matter. He confirmed that he also discussed the situation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to speed up efforts for the return of detained sailors.

Dar added that Pakistan was ready to help facilitate the travel of Iranian nationals back to Iran through Pakistani territory if needed.

He also appreciated Singapore’s cooperation during the ongoing diplomatic process. Pakistan’s Foreign Office and other relevant departments remain in contact with multiple stakeholders, including US authorities, to ensure the early return of detained sailors.

The situation has drawn attention as both Pakistan and Iran continue diplomatic engagement to resolve the issue peacefully and bring their citizens home safely.
