The holy month of Ramadan is expected to begin in Pakistan on March 2, 2025, with high chances of the crescent moon being sighted on March 1. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the new moon is predicted to be born on February 28 at 5:45 pm, increasing the likelihood of moon sighting on the evening of March 1.
As per tradition, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene its session on Sha’ban 29. Zonal committees will hold parallel meetings across the country to assess moon sighting reports. Clerics representing various Islamic schools of thought will attend the session to verify and announce the official start of Ramadan.
The holy month holds deep religious significance for Muslims around the world. Millions of Pakistanis will join billions of Muslims globally in observing the fast from dawn to sunset. Depending on geographic location, fasting hours will range between 12 and 17 hours.
In Pakistan, Ramadan is marked by an increase in acts of charity and public food drives. Communities establish roadside stalls to offer food and drinks to those returning home in the evening for iftar, the meal that breaks the day-long fast. The month is observed with religious devotion, community service, and a spirit of togetherness across the country.
