The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted heavy rains with thunderstorms and strong winds in Karachi over the next 24 hours. The city experienced intermittent showers on Tuesday night, with temperatures ranging from 26°C to 32°C and humidity at 92%.
Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Syed Salman Shah said preparations for the rain have been reviewed, and heavy machinery has been installed for drainage to minimize inconvenience to the public.
PMD Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz warned of a strong monsoon system expected to bring over 150mm of rain to Karachi, with wind thunderstorms and scattered heavy falls. Urban flooding and rain inundation are feared in Karachi and other Sindh cities.
Rainfall recordings in Karachi over the last 24 hours include, Gulshan-e-Hadid: 62mm, – Bin Qasim: 44.2mm, Quaidabad: 29mm, – Surjani: 19mm, Korangi: 18mm.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated with weather forecasts.
