Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, has emphasized the government’s firm commitment to improving security for Chinese nationals and projects in the country. His statements align with China’s broader vision of integrating development and safety, especially concerning the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Naqvi recently visited the Chinese embassy in Islamabad, where he met with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zidong. The meeting focused on the aftermath of a disturbing incident in Karachi, where two Chinese nationals were injured by guard fire. Minister Naqvi expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, offering heartfelt condolences to the injured and their families. He wished them a swift recovery.
During the discussion, Naqvi updated Ambassador Jiang on the progress of the investigation into the incident. He assured the ambassador that the safety of Chinese citizens in Pakistan remains a top priority for the government. “All necessary steps are being taken to secure the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects,” he stated. He also emphasized that the authorities are committed to ensuring a safe environment for Chinese nationals across Pakistan.
Naqvi further assured that additional security measures would be implemented to strengthen protection around Chinese projects and personnel. The Pakistani government, he noted, would work tirelessly to ensure that those responsible for the incident in Karachi are held accountable.
Both Naqvi and Jiang agreed on the importance of establishing a joint strategy to prevent similar incidents in the future. Ambassador Jiang acknowledged the growing cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing that the Pakistan-China friendship is continuously strengthening through shared efforts. He also expressed appreciation for the preparations being made for the upcoming visit of the Chinese Prime Minister.
In addition, Ambassador Jiang conveyed his best wishes for the health of former President Asif Ali Zardari, expressing hope for his speedy recovery. He also mentioned that Chinese President Xi Jinping had sent a letter wishing Zardari well.
The meeting was attended by Pakistan’s Interior Secretary and senior officials from the Chinese embassy. This gathering highlighted the ongoing commitment to bilateral cooperation and the shared goals of both nations.
