ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has firmly dismissed claims made by the Afghan Taliban administration alleging that Pakistani forces backed or took part alongside armed opposition groups operating in Badakhshan, calling the accusation entirely without merit.
The allegation surfaced after Afghan Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told Aamaj News that Pakistani authorities were directly involved in the unrest unfolding in Badakhshan.
Pakistan’s Ministry Responds to Badakhshan Allegations
Responding through a statement posted on X, Pakistan’s Ministry of Information said the claim had no basis in reality, stressing that no credible proof had been offered to support such a narrative. The ministry described the accusation as detached from facts.
According to the statement, the unrest in Badakhshan stems from Afghanistan’s own internal security and governance shortcomings, rather than any form of Pakistani interference. It pointed out that independent reporting on the clashes has characterised them as resistance against what has been described as non-inclusive and heavy-handed Taliban governance, with no findings linking Pakistan to the violence.
The ministry further maintained that Islamabad has consistently backed efforts toward a peaceful and stable Afghanistan and holds no interest in undermining its neighbour’s stability. It urged the Taliban leadership to turn its attention to the governance issues fuelling unrest within its own borders rather than attributing blame to Pakistan for Afghanistan’s internal difficulties.
The statement concluded by emphasising that unsubstantiated claims cannot replace verifiable facts, reiterating Pakistan’s rejection of the Badakhshan allegations as a distraction from Afghanistan’s domestic challenges.
