BISHKEK: Pakistan and Russia have signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation on illegal immigration during a meeting held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with interior ministers from Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan to discuss regional security, migration issues, and broader law enforcement cooperation.

During his meeting with Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, both sides agreed on steps to improve coordination in tackling illegal immigration. They also agreed to enhance cooperation for the repatriation of citizens residing unlawfully in either country.

The two countries further decided to expand joint efforts against narcotics trafficking and drug-related crime.

In a separate meeting with Tajik Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda, discussions focused on security concerns in Afghanistan. Both sides expressed concern over the presence of terrorist camps and drug production networks operating in the country.

They noted that several militant groups remain active in Afghanistan, posing risks to regional stability.

Mohsin Naqvi also met Uzbekistan’s Interior Minister Major General Aziz Tashpulatov. The talks focused on strengthening cooperation between law enforcement agencies and developing joint training programs. Both sides agreed to form a working group to enhance institutional collaboration.

During discussions with Kyrgyz Interior Minister Niyazbek Olan Omokanov, both countries agreed to deepen cooperation in security-related areas. Naqvi also congratulated Kyrgyzstan on becoming a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and thanked it for hosting the SCO meeting.

In his meeting with Kazakhstan’s Interior Minister Yerzhan Sadenov, both sides agreed to further cooperation on preventing illegal immigration and strengthening institutional ties through a dedicated working group.

Officials said the series of meetings reflects a shared regional commitment to improving security coordination, managing migration, and combating drug trafficking across borders.
