Pakistan Summons Afghan Envoy Over Karachi Attack

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with the Afghan Taliban authorities over the terrorist attack on a Pakistan Rangers facility in Karachi.

According to the Foreign Office, the Afghan acting ambassador was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and issued a strong demarche over the attack. A similar protest was also conveyed by Pakistan’s Ambassador Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani to Afghan Foreign Ministry officials in Kabul.

The protest was issued after Pakistani officials said Afghan nationals were involved in the Karachi attack. The Foreign Office said one of the attackers was captured alive, which Islamabad described as evidence that Afghan soil and Afghan nationals were being used to plan and carry out terrorist attacks inside Pakistan.

The attack targeted a Pakistan Rangers Sindh facility in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. According to ISPR, three Rangers personnel were martyred and four others were injured during the incident. Security forces killed three attackers and arrested one injured suspect, who was identified as an Afghan national.

Pakistan urged the Afghan authorities to take effective action against terrorist networks operating from Afghan territory. Islamabad also called on Kabul to take Pakistan’s security concerns seriously.

The Foreign Office said Pakistan remains deeply concerned over the continued use of Afghan territory for terrorism inside Pakistan. It added that such incidents threaten regional peace and stability.

Officials said Pakistan would continue to protect its citizens and security forces from terrorist threats. They also said Islamabad expects serious and verifiable action from Afghan authorities against those involved in cross-border terrorism.
