ISLAMABAD: In a move to enhance border security, the government has announced the installation of biometric systems at all major airports across Pakistan. The Ministry of Interior has instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to expedite the process, focusing on the addition of biometric verification at international immigration counters.
This biometric requirement aims to tighten control over passenger identification, making it more difficult for wanted criminals or fugitives to travel domestically or internationally.

The Ministry has also highlighted the broader applications of biometrics in improving airport security and efficiency:
- Face Recognition for Check-In:
Facial recognition at check-in terminals will enable passengers to confirm their identity seamlessly, reducing wait times and enhancing efficiency. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) and facial biometrics will contribute to a secure and technologically advanced air travel environment. - Fingerprint and Iris Scanning for Boarding:
By linking biometric data, such as fingerprints or iris scans, to boarding passes, the boarding process becomes smoother and more secure. Fingerprint scanning identifies unique ridge patterns, while iris scanning examines the eye’s colored area, ensuring only authorized individuals can board flights.
With these advancements, Pakistan aims to set new standards for security in air travel, ultimately enhancing the passenger experience.
