Islamabad/Ankara: Pakistan and Türkiye have accepted an invitation to join the Gaza Board of Peace, a US-backed international initiative aimed at achieving a sustainable ceasefire and post-war governance framework in Gaza.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andarabi confirmed Pakistan’s participation, saying the decision was taken under the Gaza Peace Plan and UN General Assembly Resolution 2803.
He said Pakistan hopes the initiative will contribute to a permanent ceasefire, improved humanitarian access, and the reconstruction of Gaza.
The spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people, a two-state solution, and borders based on the pre-1967 lines, adding that Pakistan would play a constructive role as a board member.
Türkiye has also agreed to join the board. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will represent Ankara at the board’s meeting to be held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
In a statement, Fidan said Türkiye would continue its active diplomatic engagement to promote peace and stability, noting that consultations on Gaza are expected during the Davos forum.
The Gaza Board of Peace was announced by the White House as part of US President Donald Trump proposal to end the Gaza conflict. The board is expected to oversee a temporary governance arrangement, under which a Palestinian technocratic body would manage Gaza during a transitional period.
The White House has named several members of the board, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, former UK prime minister Tony Blair, and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. The US president is expected to chair the board.
However, concerns have been raised over the board’s composition, as many nominated members have been strong supporters of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. Palestinian groups fear the initiative may priorities control over accountability, reconstruction, and self-determination.
