Pakistan-US Strategic Partnership Strengthens as COAS Munir Advocates Peace in Washington

RAWALPINDI: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, reaffirmed Islamabad’s responsible role in promoting peace during his visit to the United States. The visit comes at a time of rising tensions in the Middle East. According to the ISPR, Munir emphasized Pakistan’s firm commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and international law.

In Washington D.C., he met with top American scholars, strategic experts, analysts, and international journalists. During this open exchange, the army chief clearly laid out Pakistan’s position on global and regional issues. He presented Pakistan’s balanced view of ongoing conflicts and stressed peaceful solutions through cooperation and dialogue.

This visit reflects the evolving Pakistan-US strategic partnership, especially with recent events involving Israel and Iran. Munir’s week-long tour also carries weight due to the Trump administration’s role in ending last month’s military clashes between Pakistan and India.

The recent 87-hour war followed the Pahalgam incident in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. India blamed Pakistan without proof. In response, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos. During the operation, six Indian jets, including three Rafales, were shot down. The war caused heavy losses on both sides — 40 civilians and 13 Pakistani military personnel lost their lives.

The conflict ended on May 10 after a ceasefire mediated by the United States. President Trump played a key role in this peace effort. He also offered to mediate the long-standing Kashmir dispute, aiming to bring both nations to the table.

Since the ceasefire, both Islamabad and New Delhi have launched global outreach to share their narratives. The Pakistan-US strategic partnership has become central to regional diplomacy.

During his US engagements, Field Marshal Munir spoke about Pakistan’s sacrifices in the global war on terror. He said Pakistan has paid a heavy price — both in lives and economy — to ensure a safer world. He condemned regional actors who sponsor terrorism as part of hybrid warfare.

The army chief also mentioned Operation Maarka-e-Haq and gave deep insight into Pakistan’s military responses and security challenges. He called attention to Pakistan’s untapped potential in IT, agriculture, mining, and minerals. He invited foreign investors to collaborate with Pakistan for mutual prosperity.

The interaction also explored the broader diplomatic relationship between Pakistan and the US. Munir noted historical moments of cooperation in areas like counterterrorism, security, and trade. He said this alliance can grow further on the basis of mutual respect and shared interests.

Participants at the event praised the clarity of Pakistan’s position. Many welcomed Munir’s vision for peace and security. The discussion was described as open, positive, and constructive.

This high-level engagement showed Pakistan’s intent to maintain a transparent, peaceful, and cooperative global role. It also reaffirmed that the Pakistan-US strategic partnership is evolving into a deeper and more meaningful alliance.
