Pakistan’s military has declared it will go to any length necessary to shield Saudi Arabia from harm, describing the Pakistan Saudi Arabia defense pact as a bond that carries no conditions or limits.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director-General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), delivered the statement during a Thursday interview with Arab News. He emphasized that Islamabad stands behind Riyadh on every front, both through diplomatic channels and direct physical support.
The comments arrive at a tense moment for the region. Houthi forces based in Yemen have ramped up strikes against Saudi territory, adding fresh strain to a Middle East conflict that already threatens worldwide oil distribution networks.
Rising Toll From Houthi Drone Strikes
Saudi civil defense authorities confirmed that a Yemeni national residing in the kingdom died after being struck by falling debris from a drone that was intercepted above Taif, a city in western Saudi Arabia. This marks the first confirmed fatality Riyadh has attributed to the recent wave of Houthi assaults, which intensified over the past week. Officials had earlier reported that more than 80 people sustained injuries in the escalating attacks.
Lt Gen Chaudhry used the interview to underscore that Pakistan’s obligations to Saudi Arabia go beyond general military cooperation. He specifically pointed to the defense of Makkah and Madinah, noting that Pakistani forces maintain a presence there dedicated to safeguarding the Haramain Sharifain, Islam’s two holiest sites.
“There should be no doubt on that,” he stated, reinforcing that Pakistan would continue resisting any aggression directed at the kingdom.
A Bond Rooted in History
According to the ISPR spokesperson, the strength of the Pakistan Saudi Arabia security relationship isn’t tied to circumstances or negotiations. He described it as stemming from a connection that is emotional, historically deep, and fundamentally unbreakable between the two nations.
Beyond defense commitments, Chaudhry also addressed Pakistan’s diplomatic role in cooling regional tensions. He confirmed that Islamabad remains engaged with multiple states across the region, working toward a negotiated settlement that could bring lasting peace to the Middle East.
Pakistan’s Growing Role as Regional Mediator
Pakistan’s position as a mediator gained prominence following coordinated military action by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28. Tehran responded with retaliatory strikes on American bases stationed in the Gulf and moved to shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global energy shipments. Hezbollah simultaneously escalated its own attacks against Israel, widening the conflict further.
Amid this turmoil, Washington and Tehran reached a breakthrough by signing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding in June, a deal that followed extended negotiations brokered largely through Pakistani mediation.
Chaudhry characterized the agreement as a consensus document, calling it the only realistic route toward resolving tensions that continue to simmer across the region.
