Pakistani Scholars Condemn Khawarij Terrorism: Islam Gives No Room to Armed Rebels

Some of Pakistan’s most respected religious scholars have taken a firm and united stand. They have come out openly against Fitna al-Hind and the Khawarij, making it absolutely clear where Islam stands on terrorism, armed rebellion, and the misuse of jihad.

The scholars were unequivocal. Pakistan is an Islamic state. Its laws draw from the Quran and Sunnah. Any group that raises a weapon against this state steps outside the boundaries of Islam. Pakistani scholars condemning Khawarij terrorism is not a new position but this time, the message came with unusual force and clarity.

Scholar after scholar drove home the same point. Taking up arms against Pakistan under any banner, including a religious one, is completely forbidden. Issuing a fatwa of jihad against the state is equally impermissible. Only the state holds the authority to declare jihad. No individual, no group, and no movement can claim that right for itself.

Allama Tahir ul Qadri was direct. He said that anyone who picks up a weapon against the state is a terrorist. There is no religious cover for that act. Maulana Tariq Masood echoed the same view with equal firmness. He said the Khawarij movement stands against Islam, and no true Muslim should recognize or support it. He added that the scholars of Pakistan stand with the Pakistan Army in defending the country.

Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad addressed the issue of suicide attacks head-on. He declared them strictly forbidden in Islam. Extremism, he said, has no place in this religion. Maulana Fazlur Rehman was equally sharp. He called terrorists killers and criminals, people who have no standing in Islam and no justification for their actions. He said that misguided and brutal individuals find no accommodation within the faith.

Qibla Ayaz added an important point. Even the Afghan leadership, he noted, has declared jihad against Pakistan to be unlawful. That makes the position unanimous from Pakistani scholars to regional religious voices.

The Prophet ﷺ gave clear instructions. Women and children must not be killed. This single command alone exposes the Khawarij for what they are. Their violence contradicts the very Prophet they claim to follow. Pakistani scholars condemning Khawarij terrorism is not just a political statement, it is a theological verdict, grounded in centuries of Islamic scholarship.

The message from the ulema is clear and final. When a state stands on Islamic principles, terrorism against it cannot be called jihad. It is rebellion. It is a crime. And it is haram.
