LONDON: England’s Derbyshire Falcons have signed Pakistan’s young cricketer Sufiyan Muqeem for the 2026 Vitality Blast, the club announced on Friday.
According to Derbyshire, the Falcons have added two international spin bowlers — Sufiyan Muqeem and Afghanistan’s Mohammad Ghazanfar — to their squad for the upcoming T20 tournament.
The club said that Muqeem will be available during the early part of the group stage, while Ghazanfar will join the side for the later stages and knockout matches.
Muqeem has already made an impact in international cricket for Pakistan, claiming three wickets for just five runs in a T20 appearance. Known for his left-arm wrist spin, the young bowler has earned recognition in global franchise cricket.
Recently, Muqeem also featured in the Bangladesh Premier League, where he worked under former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur and received praise for his performances.
Derbyshire’s Head of Cricket Mickey Arthur described Muqeem as an emerging T20 talent, saying the spinner has the ability to deliver under pressure.
Arthur added that signing two international spinners despite scheduling clashes was a major achievement for the club and would help maintain team balance throughout the season.
