PARIS: Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem has qualified for final Javelin Throw at Paris Olympics today. Arshad Nadeem, a nine-time international medalist and four-time gold medalist who came fifth at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is Pakistan’s best shot at a medal in the Paris Olympics.
He won silver at the World Championships last year as well as gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2022 with a massive 90.18m distance throw. The last time Pakistan won a medal at the Olympics games was in 1992 in Barcelona, when it secured bronze in hockey.
Who is Arshad Nadeem?
Nadeem, a boy from smalltown Khanewal, Pakistan is one of nine children of a daily wage laborer who showed great adaptability as a player from a young age while experimenting in all types of sports at school.
Though the family lacked financial resources to encourage Nadeem’s enthusiasm for sports, his spirit earned him the support he required, with his brothers working to assist him build a career in sports, the family told media in an interview.
Pakistan sent a total of 7 players and six of them have been out of the games. Arshad Nadeem is Pakistan’s last and biggest hope for a medal in the Paris Olympics. Earlier, Arshad Nadeem won a silver medal at the World Championship last year. In the Commonwealth Games 2022, Nadeem won the gold medal, becoming the first Pakistani player since 1962 to win gold at the competition, with a massive throw that covered 90.18m distance.
