Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has extended the tenure of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee led by Zaka Ashraf for three months. The four month term of the current interim management committee, led by Zaka Ashraf, was originally set to conclude its term on November 5.
This decision was taken by the interim premier who exercised his prerogative to ensure the continuity of the committee’s efforts in advancing Pakistani cricket.
Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar expressed his confidence in the current management committee by granting this extension, signaling his support for their leadership.
Initially, the interim management committee, under the guidance of Zaka Ashraf, was set to conclude its term on November 5. However, the future of the PCB’s administration has been clouded by a series of high-profile incidents that have attracted significant attention.
One noteworthy incident involved a controversial press release that appeared to assign blame to Captain Babar Azam and selector Inzamam-ul-Haq, with the latter subsequently resigning from his position.
In addition to this, a controversy arose over a leaked WhatsApp conversation between Babar Azam and a senior PCB official, further damaging the board’s reputation.
Zaka Ashraf’s leadership has faced criticism from members of the management committee, including Zulfiqar Malik and Mustafa Ramday. They have expressed concerns regarding the committee’s decision-making processes and its perceived lack of progress in conducting board elections, a responsibility it was entrusted with in July.
In October, Zulfiqar Malik took the initiative to send an email outlining his criticisms of PCB operations to Zaka Ashraf, other committee members, and the Prime Minister. Separately, Mustafa Ramday also voiced his concerns about the board’s administration and the manner in which it has been managed.
