Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday dissolved the current selection committee of the national cricket team.
According to PCB spokesperson, the current selection committee has been dissolved and the new selection committee will be announced soon.
The PCB spokesman stated that the new selection committee would choose the squad-based only on merit and that decision-making would be transparent.
Wahab Riaz, a former Test cricket player, was the head of the current selection committee, and other former Test players on the committee included Wajahatullah Wasti, Wasim Haider, Kamran Akmal, and Taseef Ahmed.
On the other hand, seasoned all-rounder Imad Wasim announced on Saturday his decision to withdraw from retirement, making himself available to represent the Pakistan cricket team once again.
Mohsin Naqvi has been elected unopposed as the new chairman for PCB for a three-year tenure.
The decision was reached during the PCB Governing Board meeting held today at the National Cricket Academy.
The eagerly awaited announcement came after a key gathering hosted at the prestigious National Cricket Academy, where representatives from diverse regions and organizations convened to participate in the electoral process.
Notably, the Governing Board, comprising influential representatives from various regions and organizations, underscored the inclusivity of the election process.
The responsibility of overseeing the election process was entrusted to Election Commissioner Shah Khawar, who presided over the proceedings with diligence and impartiality.
