Peace talks between Iran and US enter crucial phase before ceasefire ends

Peace talks between Iran and US

Peace talks between Iran and US are showing signs of progress, with President Donald Trump expressing cautious optimism about the ongoing negotiations. He said there had been “pretty good news” regarding Iran, raising hopes that the conflict in the Middle East could move toward a peaceful end.

Speaking during a flight back to Washington, Trump said discussions would continue over the weekend. He added that many points had already been discussed and partly agreed upon. However, he did not share specific details about the developments.

Despite this positive tone, peace talks between Iran and US still face major challenges. Trump warned that the current ceasefire may not continue beyond Wednesday unless both sides reach a long-term agreement. He also made it clear that preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons remains the top priority.

Earlier, Iran allowed limited movement through the Strait of Hormuz after a temporary ceasefire linked to regional tensions. This step raised hopes for stability in global oil supply. Still, uncertainty remains as Iran has imposed strict conditions on ships passing through the route, especially those linked to the US and its allies.

The conflict, which began in late February, has caused heavy casualties and disrupted global oil markets. The Strait of Hormuz, a key route for nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil trade, had been largely restricted during the fighting, pushing energy prices higher.

Peace talks between Iran and US have also seen setbacks. Recent negotiations held in Islamabad ended without a final agreement, highlighting deep differences on key issues, especially Iran’s nuclear program.

Diplomatic sources say efforts are still ongoing, with mediators trying to bring both sides closer. There are expectations that an initial agreement could be reached soon, possibly leading to a broader peace deal within weeks.

For now, the situation remains uncertain. While both sides continue to engage in dialogue, major disagreements must be resolved before any lasting peace can be achieved.
