The Lahore High Court (LHC) granted bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvaiz Elahi on Wednesday in the case concerning the appointment of Muhammad Khan Bhatti as principal secretary. The bail was issued against a bond of Rs0.1 million.
Advocate Amir Saeedran presented arguments before the court, highlighting that the judicial magistrate had cleared Muhammad Khan Bhatti of charges. He emphasized that the appointment of the principal secretary was made by the then-chief secretary, not by Parvaiz Elahi, who subsequently assumed the role of Chief Minister.
Saeedran contended that the case was politically motivated.
In a separate ruling, the Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi seeking the ‘Peacock’ as his election symbol for the upcoming February 8 elections.
Pervaiz Elahi, who had lost the elections, had approached the court to challenge the symbol of a ‘donkey cart’ allotted to him by the Election Commission. Despite his plea for a review and a request for the symbol of a ‘peacock,’ the court upheld the Election Commission’s decision.
The court, headed by Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan, upheld the previous decision to assign the ‘donkey cart’ symbol to Pervaiz Elahi, despite the Supreme Court of Pakistan granting him permission to contest the elections.
