A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court demanding the parole-based release of former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan. The plea cites grave security concerns due to increasing regional tensions, especially with India.
The petition was submitted by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. He alleged that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sees Imran Khan as his top rival. The document warns that Modi may even target Adiala Jail with a drone strike to take revenge.
The petition highlights that India has already carried out drone attacks in various cities. Under these circumstances, Imran Khan’s life is in serious danger while in custody. According to the plea, Imran Khan had exposed Modi internationally, which deeply embarrassed the Indian government.
Gandapur argued that keeping Imran Khan in jail under politically motivated charges violates his fundamental rights. The petition explains that Pakistan’s Constitution allows parole if a prisoner’s life or health is at risk. It emphasized that prolonged incarceration could worsen Imran Khan’s health.
The petition also states that Imran Khan has shown model behavior during his time in prison. He has not violated any prison rules. His continued detention, it argues, is unjust and dangerous for his health.
Gandapur added that a formal parole request was already sent to the Punjab Home Department. However, the department did not respond. The plea urges the court to act, citing constitutional rights, international legal standards, and prison regulations.
The petition concludes by urging the Islamabad High Court to release Imran Khan on parole for the sake of his safety, rights, and wellbeing.
