PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) Monday accepted Dr Shakil Afridi’s appeal against his conviction for hearing.
Dr Shakil Afridi was arrested after killing of Osama Bin Ladin and convicted by political agent of the Khyber Agency for his links with banned terrorist groups and sentenced him to 30 years imprisonment in 2012. FATA tribunal was hearing his appeal against conviction for last seven years, but no decision was taken. However, after merger of the FATA in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, all appeals in FATA tribunal were transferred to High Court.
Defence counsels, Lattif Afridi and Qamar Nadeem appeared the high court . Qamar Nadeem told the court that despite more than 60 hearings by FATA tribunal, no progress was made on Shakil Afridi’s appeal. He hoped that now progress would be made after transfer of the case to high court.
Dr Shakil Afridi has been shifted to high security jail in Sahiwal.
